Many, many years ago outside of time and space

God created the Heavens and Earth

For us the human race

Over the waters his spirit moved

He was getting ready to start

But he couldn’t see a blooming thing

It was very, very dark

He knew just what was needed

“Let there be light” said God

In the beginning was the word

At sea with Bert and his dog

God saw that the light was good

This he called the day

The night was made to have sweet dreams

When the evening fades away

And the evening and morning were the First day

Early the next morning

The first day had passed by

God divided the waters

In the middle he put the sky

He made some clouds from cotton wool

A wind blowing in from the West

The heavens above he filled with his love

And angels that were blessed

And the evening and morning were the Second day

To rule the day and the night

The stars he hung in the sky

God had good reasons

And the years that pass us by

And the evening and morning were the Fourth day

Day 5 was looking busy

So much to get through

Making wings and fishy things

There was still lots to do

But God fancied a brew

He said “and so it shall be”

It was five to eleven

So, he popped back to heaven

For angel cake and a cup of tea

After his break the next thing to make

Were the birds, the fowls of the air

He made them all beaks

Some had webbed feet

Gave them some wings and a prayer

He made chicken that clucked

Some quacking ducks

Robins the gardener’s friend

A song to sing so joy they can bring

As the day comes to an end

And the evening and morning were the Fifth day

God had a bit of a problem

On day 5 he run out of wings

That night in bed he thought instead

He’d make animals and creeping things

So, the donkey went all wonky

Because one of its legs was too long

God made lions, zebras, bumble bees, sheep, and porky pigs

Hedgehogs, cats, tortoises, and elephants that were rather big

Some harvest mice, two giraffes that were very very tall

Bert was busy painting their spots in shades of Farrow and Ball

God was working on the zebras

He couldn’t get the colour right

They were a bit too plain so he started again

And gave them black and white stripes

The last job to do, not one but two, was to make a woman and a man

God said to Bert “We are running out of parts, but I will do the best I can”

He told them to go and make babies

“For the will I have given you is free

There’s just one thing, stay away from sin

And don’t eat the fruit on that tree”
